Beth Shirk, Watermedia Artist

For the first twenty years of her career Elizabeth (Beth) Shirk specialized in intaglio printmaking. While obtaining her degree in art from San Diego State University she studied with Paul Lingren. Later she was a student of Justine Wolfson. Beths prints received numerous awards including Best of Show at the San Diego Print Club. They can be found in dozens of private collections. More recently Beth worked in watermedia. She served on the board of directors of the San Diego Watercolor Society. Her paintingswere often seen in juried exhibitions at the San Diego Watercolor Societys Gallery and she was twice included in the prestigious SDWS International Exhibition.
In 2005, Beth was diagnosed with a rare muscle disease - Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy. Despite being confined to a wheelchair, she continued to paint until shortly before her death. One of her more recent paintings, "Discovering Gold," was accepted into the Muscular Dystrophy Association Art Collection and was chosen for the month of February in the MDA 2013 Art Calendar.
